Gameplay and Screen Layout

Gameplay is simple. In short: collect everything you can collect, jump on enemies and crates and be careful that you do not get lost! When you collect enough gold coins the exit gate will open. Find it to exit the level.

Be careful, because you cannot jump on all enemies! And if you fall into the water or electricity you will immediatelly lose a life regardless of how much energy you have.

After you exit the level bonus points will be added to your score. Every jewel you collect as well as every extra coin that you collected after the exit gate opened will bring you bonus points when you exit the level.

At the top left corner there is the number of your remaining lives and a health bar. Each life has 5 energy points which means that you can be touched by enemies five times before you lose a life. Extra lifes and extra energy can be found within the levels.   In this corner there is your current score and the number of the level you are playing in form (world-level). So for example, "LEV: 2-1" means that you are playing the first level of the second world (Egypt).
At the bottom left corner you can see which letters you still must collect to get a password. The one that are not collected are grey. When you collect a letter it becomes golden. Since the game has save game option passwords are not necessary to finish the game, but they come handy once you complete the whole game because if for example you would like to explore castle levels some more, then without passwords you would have to play all levels of the forest and Egypt world to get to the castle. With passwords you can start a new game from any level.   Bottom right corner shows how much jewels and coins you have collected. When the number near the coins is red and has a minus sign in front of it than it means that you still need to collect that many gold coins for the exit gate to open. Once you collected enough gold coins then the number near the coins is not red anymore and it shows how many extra coins you have collected. For extra coins you will get bonus points after exiting the level.

Of course there are other fun things like MANY hidden areas, tunnels, levers, doors, moving platforms and slippery surfaces.

At the end of the game you will even have to fight with the big boss by flying and shooting at it in a little space fighter.

Don't miss this great arcade adventure and find out for yourself how the story about Bud and Rachel ends. Be ready for a surprising twist near the end of the story!!!

How to properly install Bud Redhead for multiple users on a computer with WinXP,2000 or NT

If you do not have NTFS (NT file system) then just install the game and that's all. There are no problems with access permissions because FAT does not allow setting permissions on a per folder base.

However, if you do have NTFS then you must give modify permission for the game folder to the ordinary (limited) users so the game would get write access to its configuration files when started from those limited accounts. Otherwise, limited users will be able to play, but they won't be able to save their progress, hiscores and game settings. (Note also that save game statuses, hiscores and game settings will be the same for all users.)

Bud Redhead is NOT designed to be run by multiple users from the same computer at the same time!

To properly install the game and give modify permission for Bud's folder to ordinary users on WinNT, Win2000 or WinXP follow these steps:
  1. log in as administrator
  2. install the game
  3. run the game once (important)
  4. open "My Computer" or Windows Explorer
  5. open properties of the folder to which the game was installed (usually "C:\Program Files\Bud Redhead")
  6. click on the security tab and give modify permission to ordinary users
If you have WinXP and you do not see security tab in folder properties then choose "Tools .. Folder Options" from the menu and at the bottom of the list clear the "Simple File Sharing" checkbox.

If you later decide to register the game you must enter your registration key under administrator account to unlock the game properly.
